The Eastern curse reared its head again, as Kenya revived their hopes of making it to the finals of 2019 Afcon after the Harambee Stars earned a hard fought 1-0 win over the Black Stars of Ghana.
For years, Ghana has always found it difficult beating teams from East Africa.
Their failure to beat Uganda home and away was largely responsible for their inability to appear at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
On their part, Kenya had suffered a 2-1 lose away to Sierra Leone in their opening game, with Ghana defeating Ethiopia 5-0.
Coach Sebastian Migne has promised that his Kenyan lads would “floor the Black Stars.”
His tactics paid off, as Michael Olunga’s cross was diverted by a Ghanaian defenderjust before half-time.
Despite playing the second half with ten men, Kenya fought gamely and won.
It means their campaign is well and truly alive, while Ghana must prepare for a thunder-and-blood encounter against Sierra Leone.
