The Kwara State Badminton Association has approved the appointment of Engineer Suleiman Warah as its substantive Chairman.
The decision was reached at its inaugural meeting held at the Conference room of the State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
Members of the Association unanimously upgraded Engineer Warah who was its immediate First Vice chairman to the position of Chairman based on his track records and performance.
The meeting also confirmed the appointment of Mr Tunde Akande as its first Vice chairman and Professor Abduulfatai Olokoba as it’s second vice chairman.
Speaking shortly after his elevation, Engineer Warah charged members of the new board to work assiduously for the upliftment of the game of Badminton in the State and the Nation in general.
The new Chairman recalled that the State use to dominate the game of Badminton in the past and had produced seasoned athletes that had represented the State and the Nation in international championships.
He called on members not to rest on their oar to turn around the game in the State and build on its past successes.
Engineer Warah urged them to be ready to use their resources and wherewithal to promote the game of Badminton in the State and the Nation adding that government alone could not shoulder the responsibility.
The Chairman noted that the new board would focus on aggressive talent hunts particularly at the grassroots with the aim of discovering potential talents that would be nurtured to stardom.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Association charged the State government to urgently renovate the indoor Sports Hall and other facilities in the Stadium to positively engage youth in sporting activities.
The Association also among others called on individuals and corporate bodies to partner with the Association in its resolve to develop the game and sports generally.
About one million naira was raised at the meeting among members to commence the running of the Association.
