Kwara Speaker commissions NIS Operating Base in Baruten

Kwara Speaker, Eng Daladi Salihu flanked by the CIS Kwara Command, Mrs Edith Onyemenam and the Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Shero at the inauguration of NIS FOB in Baratun, Kwara State.

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Engineer Yakubu Danladi-Salihu has officially commissioned the Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Okuta, Baruten local government area of Kwara state.

The Speaker enjoined security agencies in Nigeria to take a cue from the Nigeria Immigration Service by strengthening their operational base to enhance the overall efficiency of security architecture across the country.

“Coming to being of the operation base will in no small measure strengthen our security architecture in Kwara state, and curtail the porous nature of our national border.

“The location is strategic; Baruten is a national border thus, the base is well stationed,” he said.

He expressed the appreciation of the people and government of the state,  for the proactive leadership of the Nigeria Immigration Service stating that recently, the service embarked on e-registration of migrants and later, also commissioned its permanent State Command in Ilorin, the State capital.

According to the speaker, this indicates significant federal government presence in Kwara State and commended President Muhammadu Buhari led-Federal Government and the steadfastness of the Nigeria Immigration Service, under the leadership of Comptroller General – Mohammed Babandede and Kwara state Comptroller of Immigration Service – Edith Onyemenam.

Danladi also stressed that he is delighted that among several border communities, Okuta – Baruten in Kwara state is found worthy of the base location.

“I want to assure you, on behalf of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of the continued support of the government and people of Kwara state for the Nigeria Immigration Service, as a government that cares for the security of its people,” Danladi said.

The Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Shero, in his remarks, expressed gladness over the development and assured the Nigeria Immigration Service of maximum support of the people of Okuta.

The Kwara state Comptroller of Immigration Service, Edith Onyemenam had earlier briefed that there are 14 Forward Operating Base (FOB) facility of NIS across the country, for which Kwara is lucky to have one.

She noted that the FOB is a strategic support facility to achieve operational goals of security outfits, adding that “the facility will attract more federal government presence to Baruten and the gain shall be for everyone.” 

She appreciated Kwara state government and the Speaker, Danladi-Salihu for supporting the Service at all time, adding that the power generating set donated by the Speaker in its former office where there was power supply challenge aided their operations significantly.
