The Kwara Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has congratulated the new Governor-elect, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his victory at March 9 Gubernatorial elections.

The body, in a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday, signed by its Secretary Olayinka Owolewa, urged the incoming administration to focus on total overhauling of sports infrastructure in the State.

The sports writing body reminded the Governor-elect that the State used to be the hub of hunting for talented athletes when sporting infrastructure was top notch in Kwara.

They urged him to work hard to restore those old glory days to help develop the sector.

The body also emphasised the need to focus on grass root sports development to identify, nurture and encourage young talents right from infancy.

They believe that sports can help the incoming administration in a massive way to engage the youth and reduce restiveness.

SWAN was particular about the renovation of the indoor sports hall of the State stadium complex which has hosted international competitions in the past but now a shadow of itself.

The body, therefore, pledges its willingness to partner with the Governor-elect to take sports development to greater heights in the State.
