Lagos Governor urges Muslims to enhance mutual understanding

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has joined Muslims in the State to celebrate the end of the holy of Ramadan with a charge to enhance mutual understanding among themselves.

The Governor was speaking at a get-together organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs to commemorate the 2018 Eid-il-fitri celebration in the State.

Governor Ambode explained that the event was organised to bring all and sundry together in the spirit of unison and atmosphere of understanding.

“It’s my pleasure to be in your midst on this occasion to celebrate with you this year Eid-il-fitri festival, marking the end of another glorious month of Ramadan. I pray that our fast and sacrifice will be accepted and awarded bountifully.

“This event was in furtherance of our commitment to promote all-inclusive governance and ensure thatvour people feel the pulse of good governance irrespective of their locations within the boundary of our State.

“Apart from the festivity, and promotion of social bonding, this occasion is also a way to show gratitude to God for His love to enjoy peaceful coexistence which has led to the continuous growth of the state,” Governor said

The Governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Rotimi Ogunleye said that he was elated to see the massive crowd who have thronged the Ikorodu Town Hall, one of the 20 locations designated for the celebration to pray for the state and enjoy the moments.

He said: “I feel humbled and delighted to see everyone here today. We thank the Almighty Allah in His infinite mercies for preserving our lives to partake in today’s celebration with divine favour and spiritual guidance which will ensure that Lagos continues to thrive in this atmosphere of peaceful coexistence, harmonious relationship and unprecedented infrastructural growth for economic development.”

He urged them to keep supporting the government through commitment by discharging their civic obligations in order for the State to achieve its desired status.

Spirit of oneness

In a separate interview, the Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Ikorodu Central, Dr. Emmanuel Adegoke applauded the initiative of the Governor to host residents of the state on occasion as this.

In his words: ” I really appreciate the Governor Ambode for his magnanimity to put this together, to cushion the economic aspect of the individuals especially those who may not afford to feed themselves on a day like this and it’s also a way of bring unity among the Muslim and Christians in the State. As you can see, Christians are also here to celebrate with the Muslims. And that’s how he also caters for the Christians during the Christmas time. He is a wonderful man.

The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Mr. Wasiu Adedeji also thanked the Governor for his gestures and promised that he will at the local level continue to support the State government through its programs and policies.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Education District 4, Mrs Solarin Titilayo maintained that the State has enjoyed peaceful environment and continuous economic growth as a result of programs and activities geared towards improving quality of lifes in the State.

He enjoined residents of the State to continue to pray for Lagos and Nigeria , especially as the nation is looking ahead for the next general election in 2019.

Most of the celebrants who converged on the Town Hall beamed with smiles as they ate and drank with other side attractions provided by the government.

They all appreciated the State Government for the gesture and promised to key into the vision of making the State a Smart city among other expected development.
