Lagos-Ibadan Rail project meets Specification

The Permanent secretary,Federal Ministry of Transport, Sabiu Zakari has expressed satisfaction over the quality of work at the Ongoing Lagos-Ibadan standard rail gauge project handled by China Civil and Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC.

Mr Zakari while addressing journalists after monthly routine inspection at Ifo area of Ogun State said the quality work was in accordance with the specifications agreed upon.

He stated that remedial action had already been taken at Abese Village area of Ifo where earth tremor was discovered, that it would not attract any additional cost.

According to him, all the Consultants and Ministry’s Engineers have confirmed and adjudged the parameter and solid work the handler has done. Any unforeseen or hindrances in the course of the project are part of exigencies and in engineering and construction works such occurrences must have been planned for.

Quality Job
Nigerian Railway Corporation Board Chairman, Alhassan Ibrahim in similar vein gave credit to the Contractor for living up to the expectations by achieving standard and quality job.

Mr Alhassan said regular inspections has made the project pace of work move faster and where adjustments have been identified, corrections had been done to effect the changes.

He stated that the mandate to be achieved was still on course and everything was working in tandem in line with the contractual agreement.

Meeting Standards
“For instance,there are challenges, where all these are discovered, we need to address the issue to making sure we meet with the standard. In Abeokuta where station was to be built we have to make sure that excavator has to be brought for smoother job in that axis.

“With the level at which the project is going, its believed that the project would be delivered accordingly,” he added.

Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corperation, Fidet Okhiria explained that the 4kilometers second phase of the track had been laid to Ibadan while the Lagos axis was ongoing.

“Despite the rainfall, the form work of Lagos part of the construction would not affect the delivery date. It is crystal clear that commercial activities will begin whenever the project is completed” you will agree with me that we usually go to Ibadan from Lagos by rail and return by rail.

He said that all challenges in Lagos axis have been addressed and full work would commence to meet up deadline of the project.
