The Lagos State Polytechnic LASPOTECH in the south west Nigeria has concluded arrangement to hold a conference on Africa’s Infrastructure and Development.
The Rector of the institution, Mr. Samuel Sogunro made this known at a press briefing ahead of the 26th edition of the polytechnic’s convocation at the school premises.
Sogunro said “The Polytechnic will be hosting the 7th edition of the International Conference on Infrastructure and Development in Africa (ICIDA) in collaboration with University of Johannesburg, South Africa, Kwame Nkrumah University of science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana and Bells University of Technology, Ota, Nigeria”.
The Rector who was delighted to announce the one-week programmes that will herald the 2018 convocation ceremony said that the institution is geared towards greatness.
While highlighting achievements of the institutions in the last one year, the Rector explained that the feat wouldn’t have been possible without unflinching support by the stakeholders in the state education.
“The total support that the Polytechnic has been enjoying from the Lagos State Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his special adviser on Education, Mr Obafela Bank-Olemoh has been overwhelming in the last two years.
“The efforts of the Nigerian Government through Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TET Fund) and other governmental agencies have in no small measures contributed to the success story and progress so far recorded by the polytechnic “.
“Let me seize this opportunity to share with you some of our modest milestone since the last convocation ceremony and these include: Completion of the Laspotech F.M 101.9 Radio Station, Electricity supply for a day to day administration, Re-accreditation to operate as Jamb CBT centre, Production of large scale farming of cassava among others”.
Mr Sogunro noted that the institution has grown in terms of quality education deliverables and it’s willing to surpass its previous achievement.
“The polytechnic which commenced its programmes with 257 students and 5 departments in 1978 is set to graduate 6,355 students across all our schools. Out of this number, 211 earned Distinction, 1,368 in Upper credits, 3,505 in lower credits while 1,271obtained pass classification”. Rector added
He however enjoined parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards at home while reassuring them of the school’s commitment to protect lives and properties of their children.
The International Conference will hold between March 28 to March 30, 2018 while the 26th edition of the Convocation will hold on Thursday March 8 with Lagos state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode as a special guest of honour and former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole as a guest lecturer at one of the Convocation lectures.
