The scheduled meeting of the National Assembly members has been called off.
The meeting was to discuss Supplementary Budget as well as INEC budget for the 2019 general elections.

Speaking to Newsmen, the Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Yusuf Suleimon Lasun said the earlier meeting has been called off.

Mr. Lasun, who described the presence of heavy armed security personnel at the National Assembly as a threat to democracy, said all the arms of government should be independent for the democracy to thrive.

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Omolori returned back with his security at the last gate of the National Assembly manned by heavily armed security personnel.

Omolori said he was not denied entry but he refused to go into the complex by his own volition, adding that he could not have gone into his office without all his staff, who have been locked outside the complex.

The National Assembly has three main gates besides other outlets which are heavily guarded by security personnel vetting lawmakers of all political ideologies trekking into the building for the supposed meeting.

Also speaking to newsmen, a House of Representative member from Kano State, Mukhtar Chiromawa said all lawmakers were being allowed into the complex but that the scheduled meeting is for the Senators.
