Lil Nas X tops Billboard chart for 17 weeks

“Old Town Road” by American rapper Lil Nas X, has officially spent its 17th week at as number 1, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart!
“Old Town Road” was initially released independently on December 3, 2018, and gained popularity on social video sharing app, TikTok.
Nas recorded the original track in his bedroom with a simple beat from YouTube that rapidly went viral on Tik Tok. “Old Town Road’s” popularity on the app, combined with its insanely catchy lyrics and the controversy of Billboard removing it from the country charts, propelled the track to number one on the Hot 100, where it has now stayed for seventeen weeks.
The previous record was a tie for sixteen weeks held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men with “One Sweet Day” and the “Despacito (Remix)” by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber.
Nas X, who came out earlier this summer on the last day of Pride Month, previously broke the record for longest-running number 1, by an openly gay man at fifteen weeks.
