ChiTola Farms says its new gluten free ‘Tiger-nut Flour’ was produced in line with the Federal Government’s drive for value addition in agricultural products for export.
The Chief Executive Officer of the farm, Ms Chioma Tolani Roberts, popularly known as Chi Tola, said the production of ChiTi Tiger-nut Flour with value addition was necessary to make agribusiness thrive to become the mainstay of the country’s economy and a major foreign exchange earner.
According to Roberts, as more Nigerians are becoming health conscious of their diets, tiger nut flour is a sure way to do so because of its natural sugars.
“ChiTi Tiger Nuts Flour is made from carefully selected, proudly Nigerian grown Tiger nuts, organically dried, milled and sieved into this premium product.
“We believe in the benefits of this Tiger Nut Flour for health and through various analyses from renowned researchers and institutions globally, it has been confirmed to be an alternative dietetics and its gluten free.
“And as a matter of fact, it is a positive alternative to add to any type of flour,’’ she said.
Roberts urged Nigerians to start considering the tiger nuts flour as source of fibre, which could serve as a good alternative to wheat flour for people who could not tolerate gluten in their diets.
She said that tiger-nut flour when mixed with other flour-like maize, could be “very tasty and it is considered good flour and it does not lose any of its nutritional properties after the milling process.’’
She commended the Federal Government for supporting SMEs in the agriculture sector.
“So far, there are more and more youths daring to venture into business and their creativity is beyond imagination.
“However, I call on the Federal Government and tertiary institutions to do more in promoting agriculture that will give the youths the experience they need to propel them to be creative and consider agriculture as a choice of business,‘’ she said.
Robert said that the agriculture sector was a major employer of labour hence the needed support from government to drive value addition across all its sections.
