Low turnout as voting commences across Niger State

Abdul Mohammed Isa, Niger State

Voting has commenced at the early hours of Saturday in most polling units at kontagara zone C in Niger State North Central Nigeria for Gubernatorial and the State House of Assembly’s election.

Observations shows the voting records low turnout of electorates unlike the presidential and National assembly’s elections.

People interviewed by voice of Nigeria mentioned that preference was given more to the presidential election than that of the Governor and the state house of assembly due to the influence of President Muhammad Buhari within the local Community of Kontagora and Niger State.

However the conduct of the election within the Kontagora and other areas in Niger State is going on well as electoral officers   in various units on time while security agents have been going on their normal duties to ensure the safety of the conduct of the election.

Professor Sam Egwu, the Resident electoral Commissioner of Niger State who promised free and fair election warned electorates on resisting the use of the smart card reader as that may lead to the cancellation of the result of the particular units.
