Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais are lining up a bid for Nigeria international, Samuel Chukwueze, in the January transfer window.
The French club, who had their €12m opening bid for Chukwueze’s teammate Karl Toko Ekambi rejected, have declared interest in the Nigeria forward who has a €63m buyout clause.
Lyon representatives Vincent Ponsot and Florian Maurice have asked about the availability of Chukwueze, but reports from Foot Mercato reveal that the player has already been promised to an unnamed Premier league club.
The seven-time Ligue 1 champions are in need of creative players after injuries to their key stars Memphis Depay and Jeff Reine-Adelaide, who are likely to be out for the rest of the season.
“We are trying to recruit. We are in a situation which is not dramatic, but in a situation which is difficult from a sporting point of view. So we will, of course, try to strengthen ourselves, “Lyon President, Jean-Michel Aulas, said.
However, it is unlikely that Lyon will succeed with their bid for Chukwueze as rumours in Spain say it would take at least €40m to take the player out of La Liga.
Premier League sides Chelsea and Liverpool have been rumoured to be interested in the talented forward.
