Blida is a fortress for Algeria, with the Desert Foxes having never lost a game there. The fixture is the final qualifier for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, however Algeria have already secured their place at Egypt this summer.
Algeria have faced Gambia seven times previously, winning four, drawing one and losing two. The two sides drew 1-1 with each other when they played the reverse fixture last year where Baghdad Bounedjah got the goal.
Yacine Btahimi, Faouzi Ghoulam, Rais M’Bolhi, Mehdi Zeffane, Nabil Bentaleb and Ishak Belfodil are all not in the squad. Manager Djamel Belmadi has said that he will be using this game to experiment some new players, so we may see the likes of Riyad Mahrez on the bench.
Benin and Togo are the other two teams in the group. The game will be at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, on Friday 22nd March with kick off at 7.45pm.. A win for Gambia could send them to the competition in June and July.
