Minister calls for domestication of ICT in Nigeria

The Nigerian Minister of Communications Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has called for the domestication of Information and Communications Technology, ICT, through local content development in Nigeria to address the challenges faced.

Pantami stated this at the ongoing Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX 2019) in Dubai, United Arab Emirate which started October 6 to 10, 2019.

Pantami also tasked experts in the sector to exploit progress ways to make ICT valuable through technology transfer for the development of Nigeria.

In a related development, the Director General/CEO, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Kashifu Inuwa while reiterating the importance of ICT in achieving President Buhari led administration Economic Recovery Plan, stressed the need for the country to utilise ICT to transform the country into a knowledge base economy and achieve inclusion and transform ICT as an alternative to oil.

Inuwa stated that NITDA through its seven pillar agenda is yielding results as ICT took center stage in contributing 13.86% to GDP in the quarter.

Dr. Isa Pantami led the Nigerian team to the global event to network with IT Professionals, Foster the growth of ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship and attract Foreign Direct Investments.

The 39th GITEX Technology Week, the biggest technology show in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia is themed “Synergising the Mind and Technology Economy”.
