Minister commends Road Safety Corps at 30

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has been commended for living up to its mandate by ensuring proper traffic management and safety on Nigerian roads.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello gave the commendation at an event to mark the 30 years existence of the Corps in Abuja.

Malam Bello stated that with the coming on board of the Agency, incidence of traffic crashes and deaths associated with road mishaps have been on downward trend.

“As Nigeria’s lead Agency for road traffic management and safety administration, the Agency indeed has grown to stamp its presence on Nigeria’s road and traffic landscape.
“It is therefore gratifying to note that 30 years after its establishment, the FRSC has worked to significantly restore sanity on our roads. Similarly, traffic crashes and deaths as a result of road accidents have continued to down trend following the remedial measures adopted by the Corp,
”Mallam Bello said.

Various Initiatives
The minister noted that the FCT Administration and residents of the territory have benefitted immensely from the various initiatives carried out by the Corps.

He said the pro-activeness of the Agency has also led to significant decline in the spate of accident menace in the territory.
The FCT Administration has indeed, benefitted from the various initiatives of the Corps. We are glad that your activities have impacted positively on the safe driving culture of residents. While we recognize the decreasing rate of driving culture menace on the FCT roads,” he stated.

He assured the Agency of sustained partnership with the organisations in discharge of its responsibility.

Electronic Vehicles Testing Scheme
Malam Bello further explained that arrangement was on top gear by the FCT Administration to re-invigorate the temporarily suspended Administration’s electronic vehicles testing scheme, including improved licensing system and also stem the menace of disorderliness on roads in the territory.

On this note, I wish to assure you of our sustained partnership towards the effective discharge of your mandate. The FCT Administration is re-enforcing its electronic vehicle testing scheme,” he added.
The Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi maintained that the Agency was fully committed to ensure it lives up to its mandate by ensuring that the roads are safe and secured for commuters.
He stated that the Agency intended to acquire 1,200 patrol vehicles within the next few years.

The Corp Marshal noted that the Corps was working assiduously to complement the efforts of States towards having fully functional traffic management agencies.
