Minister of Information & Culture resumes office

The Minister of Information & Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has resumed office shortly after being sworn in for a second term.

The minister was received by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dcns. Grace Isu Gekpe and management staff.

Lai Mohammed charged senior staff in the Ministry to re-double effort in their respective duty post so as to improve on the success recorded in the last four years.

He said the success recorded in the last tenure can simply be attributed to the level of cooperation and understanding among the staff at different levels.

He said as a Ministry there was need to justify the confidence reposed on them by the President. He said his reappointment and posting to the same ministry was an indication of the measure of confidence and believe by the President that the Ministry staff can deliver the goods.

“We have worked together with a good number of the staff seated here and the relationship was cordial and also professional. We can make our Ministry a great ‘A’ place to work and leave a lasting legacy. Let us work and collaborate together. During our retreat, the President emphasized the need for synergy and collaboration with the Permanent Secretaries as well as the heads of parastatals.”

Mohammed said he has a good relationship with the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary which resulted to the success recorded. He then called on the Directors to join hands in the success story going forward.

“The contribution of the Permanent Secretary was immense .As a political head I cannot do it all alone, I need your support and cooperation to succeed.

The Minister also thanked his media team and journalists that covered the Ministry’s activities in the last tenure and called on those who are still on the beat to continue with the support and hard work they exhibited the last term.

Mr. Lai Mohammed who is a trained lawyer, linguist and renowned media /communication manager was Chief of staff in Lagos state, spokesman for the opposition political party before becoming minister in 2015. He brought about some reforms in the Information and culture sector while he was in charge the first term.

Change begins with me, security awareness campaign, fake news and hate speech campaigns, town hall meetings across the country and beyond where some of his major programmes and unique strategies of reaching the public which are likely going to be sustained this term.
