National Health Insurance Scheme in Nigeria (NHIS) is to develop 3Point Agenda and a 10year strategic plan to overhaul the agency to meet the health, economic and productive lives of Nigerians.

The New Executive Secretary of the scheme, Prof. Mohammed Sambo stated this on assumption of office at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

Prof Sambo also reiterated his commitment to restore and transform the scheme into a credible and result oriented organization.

3Point Agenda

“The first logical thing to do is to develop an agenda of rebranding the National Health Insurance Scheme, to this end, a 3point agenda of rebranding of the Agency  has been packaged as follow: Restoring a system that would transfer NHIS into a credible  and results driven Organization.

Engendering accountabily and transparency in the entire operational system of the NHIS.

And to drive achieving Universal Access to quality of health care service to all Nigerians.”,

Prof. Mohammed Sambo, while addressing the staff of the agency revealed that the myriads of problems within the scheme had prevented it from rendering quality health services to Nigerians.

He therefore called for the cooperation of members and staff and for all aggrieving members to be at peace in achieving his mandate.

“In the process of accountability of our mandate, we should remember to put the people and national interest first above any other consideration. When u accepted to work in the scheme we were conscious that this scheme is not a war front nor a battle field , who thinks it is a battle field, I am waiting for his/her resignation letter today.”

He added that all grieving parties should shield their swords for the betterment of the agency

Professor Sambo replaced the former Executive Secretary of the scheme, Prof Usman Yusuf, who was recommended for dismissal by a panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the crisis that rocked the NHIS.

While handing over to Sambo, Dr. Ben Omogo, who was the Overseeing Director of NHIS for nine months, said the management of the scheme under his watch promoted all workers that were due for it after the senior staff meeting that was held last week.
