The Nigeria Football Federation is set to review the template for paying Super Eagles stars’ match bonuses.
This new development was made known by a member of the Glasshouse Technical Department Bitrus Bewarang on Wednesday. He stated this while responding to the national team coach, Gernot Rohr’s claims of being owed an outstanding $100,000 bonus package by the federation.
The Super Eagles are currently receiving $15,000 as tournament bonus and $10,000 for other national engagements.
However, it seems there are plans to review this payment structure, according to Bewarang.
“The present NFF started the policy of paying players a percentage of tournament bonuses during the 2018 FIFA World Cup just to motivate them, outside their bonuses and allowances.
“We did not pay any bonus for the 2021 AFCON qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Lesotho because we are in the process of negotiating with the players on a new template of bonus payments based on performance after qualification for championships. This is still being discussed.”
Nigeria currently sit atop proceedings in Group L of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers with six points after recording wins against Lesotho and Benin Republic respectively.
