The Niger state government in North Central Nigeria, has flagged off the distribution and sales of 15,000 metric tons of fertilizer for the 2020 farming season in the State.
The Governor of the state, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, during the event on Thursday in Minna, the State Capital, said the early fertilizer distribution is to ensure food security in the state.
Items distributed aside the fertilizer includes 457 metric tons of assorted seeds, 107,050 liters of assorted agrochemicals and other inputs for 2020 cropping season in the state.
Governor Bello who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane stated that the NPK 15,000 metric tons are to be sold at N5,500, while the 5,000 metric tons of Urea is to be sold at N7,000.
Already 21 local government councils in the state have received their inputs with state paying for its transportation to various destinations at the local level as part of subsidy.
The Niger State Governor, added that the state government is partnering with the private sectors to ease access to the inputs by the citizens, through a built supply chains.
The Niger State Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Zakari Haliru Jikantoro, who applauded the timely distribution of the fertilizer, assured to sustain the tempo for higher productivity and improved incomes.
The Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Niger state, Alhaji Shehu Galadima, who appreciated the state for its timely distribution of inputs, however, called for government urgent attention over security challenges affecting farmers in some communities in the state.
