The Nigerian government has assured football governing body FIFA that it recognises the leadership of Amaju Pinnick as the authentically elected president of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

In a tweet released by Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant-Media & Publicity to Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Nigerian government promised to work with all stakeholders in the football scene to resolve any lingering dispute.

The Federal government’s statement may have averted a looming worldwide ban on Nigeria by FIFA, after it gave a deadline of 12 noon Monday August 20 for the reinstatement of Amaju Pinnick as the president of NFF.

“The Federal Government has already conveyed to FIFA its firm position recognizing Amaju Pinnick-led NFF as the current & only NFF Exco,” Akande tweeted

“Governmemt will also continue to work with all relevant stakeholders involved to resolve dispute in a timely manner. Federal Government is upholding NFF treaty obligations to FIFA.”

FIFA is yet to officially make a response.
