Nigeria gives cars to assist Niger with the AU summit

The Nigerian government has extended assistance to the Niger in support for organising the African Union (AU) Summit in Niamey.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Niger,  Attahiru Haliru told Journalists covering the Summit in Niamey on Saturday that the assistance was based on specific requests by the neighbouring West African country.

Haliru said ”Nigeria donated five coaster buses, two Armoured Personnel Carriers, 100 bullet proof vests as well as 40 vehicles to be used during the duration of the Summit.”

He however said ”the 40 vehicles would be returned to Nigeria at the end of the Summit.”

President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to attend the 12th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union on African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the First Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the AU and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in Niamey on July 7.

The AU Summit is expected to launch the operational instruments of the Agreement establishing AfCFTA.

While in Niamey, the leader of Africa’s largest economy and most populous nation will sign the AfCFTA agreement which is expected to boost intra-African trade.
