Nigeria flags off 2018/2019 school census

The Nigerian government has flagged off the 2018/2019 Annual School Census Exercise ASC, to commence in all States of the Federation.

The School Census Exercise signals the commencement of the enumeration of all schools, pupils, teachers and facilities in the basic and Post Basic School levels.

The Minister of Education ,Adamu Adamu said this year’s census is with the theme : ‘Mobile Technology: A Veritable Tool for enhancing the Generation of Credible, Reliable and Timely Education Data.’

Adamu said in Abuja on Tuesday that ”this year’s exercise with Mobile technology to generate credible, reliable and timely data from remote site schools in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will enhance educational planning and research, decision making ,national and global reporting on the Nigerian basic education sector.”

The Minister called on all stakeholders and custodians of school records to accurately complete the Annual School Census forms using the Mobile Technology.

Gathering data
Adamu stated that ”the Nigerian government has planned to use Android Tablets to gather data from schools during the conduct of the 2018/2019 ASC.”

He called for prudence in the school census saying ”the exercise is expected to provide reliable and timely data for proper planning, management and administration of education in Nigeria.”

Adamu added that the government had conducted geo-positioning of schools in some states which would help to get the exact and accurate number of schools across the country.
