Nigeria safe for tourists, investors- Minister

Nigeria’s Information and Culture Minister Mr. Lai Mohammed has said that the country is safe and secure for its citizens, foreign tourists and investors.

He affirmed that whatever pockets of criminal acts that exist are being addressed squarely.

Mr. Mohammed disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday as part of pre event to the 61st Meeting of the United Nation World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) to be hosted by Nigeria in Abuja from Monday the 4th of June.

He said the successes recorded by this Administration in fighting insecurity, was responsible for Nigeria wining the hosting right of this global meeting.

Mr. Mohammed said the UNWTO meeting will showcase the rich and diverse culture of Nigeria.

He also said some spectacular cultural events have been lined up lighten up the meeting.

He said they are expecting an impressive attendance. As at today, there have been confirmation from 166 foreign delegates, 26 Ministers and 332 Nigerian delegates.

The theme of the meeting is ”Tourism Statistics: A Catalyst for Development”, it is apt and timely for Nigeria, he said.

Mohammed said that the theme fits very well into Nigeria’s quest to improve on her tourism statistics for planning purposes and the ultimate development of tourism.

“Tuesday will feature the Technical Seminar and the meeting will be wrapped up on Wednesday by the Technical Visit, which will take the delegates to the breathtaking Eko Atlantic City in Lagos.”

We decided to save the best for last, it is common knowledge that culture drives tourism. We will, therefore, use the occasion of this meeting to showcase the rich and diverse culture of Nigeria. Some spectacular.”

The Minister mentioned that cultural events have thus been lined up for the meeting. “At this evening’s cocktail, delegates will be treated to the Seki Dance Drama from the South-South, a spectacular and colourful show like no other,” he said.

“On Monday and Tuesday, the command performance of the globally-acclaimed ‘Fela and the Kalakuta Queens’ by Bolanle Austen-Peters will take the centre stage at the Gala Night. Words are not enough to describe this show.”

According to the programme, Monday,the 4th will have a grand opening ceremony, to be performed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
