Nigeria to strengthen health system through effective laboratories

The Nigeria government says it is strengthening its health system to boost the health sector, through effective laboratories.
Nigerian Vice President, Professor  Yemi Osinbajo made the statement at the opening ceremony of the 55th Scientific Conference of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, holding in Abuja.
He said the Nigeria government would work towards achieving Global Health Security.
The vice president who was represented by the Nigerian minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, also said that the conference would help in addressing Nigeria’s poor heath indices.
The Vice President also said that Nigeria was fully ready to implement the Global Health Security to rid the country of infectious diseases.
In his address, the national president of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Dr. Bassey Eyan Bassey, says the conference which focuses on Global health Security is aimed at reminding governments of the agreement they signed on you in 2014.
“The overall goal of this conference is to promote Global Health Security Agenda, as a veritable platform for laboratory systems strengthening and facilitate the development of actionable strategic approaches for a coordinated sector-wide medical laboratory systems strengthening efforts from a systems perspective that will support the development of a robust and interconnected network of laboratories that are adequately capacitated to rapidly detect, and transparently report disease outbreaks on the continent” Bassey said.
Dr Bassey added that members of the association would continue to be in the fore front of diseases Prevention.
The Chairman of the scientific conference and former minister of health, Dr. Ehitayo Lambo, applauded the association for using it conference to draw attention to the plight of the Nigerian health security.
In his keynote address, Dr. Kechef Ijaz of the US Center for Disease Control, urged countries to work together and improve the health of their people.
He added that due to mass movements of people from one place to the other, diseases are also transported, hence the need to be watchful.
The scientific conference attracted both local and international participants is also focusing on ways to improve medical Laboratory science for better health services.
The theme for the 55th Annual Scientific Conference of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) tagged “Capital city 2019″, is Global Health Security: Medical Laboratory Agenda for Sub-Saharan Africa”.
