Nigerian Correctional Service Centres to be automated

The Nigerian Government has approved the automation of Case Management System of the Correctional Service, formerly Nigeria Prison Service as one of the reforms to decongest the Correctional Centres across the country.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami made the disclosure at a three day workshop on the Effective Implementation of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act; formerly Nigeria Prison Service organised by the Ministry of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Minister stated that the signing of the Act into law was based on  President Muhammadu Buhari’s concern over the deplorable condition of prisons across the country.

Mr. Malami also said that the new innovation will be integrated in the existing prison information management system and is expected to commence in December 2019.

’’The efforts will enhance the focus on corrections and promotion of reformation, rehabilitation and integration of offenders as provided by the Act, ’’ he said

According to him, the Nigeria Correctional Service Act, 2019 is the first attempt by a government to produce a Prison law since independence.
