Nigerian government denies execution of Nigerians in Saudi Arabia

Adoba Echono, Abuja

The Nigerian government has denied the rumor that 23 Nigerians have been executed for drug offences in kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Spokesman of the ministry of foreign affairs Ferdinand Nwonye in a statement said the Ministry is in contact with the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia and that it has been confirmed that the story is false and should be disregarded.

Mr. Nwonye in the statement explained: “The Ministry is investigating claims that most of the trials were carried out without adequate legal representation for the accused, in accordance with internationally accepted legal principles.

“Furthermore the Nigerian Mission was not informed of the arrests and trials. “

The Nigerian Government, according to the statement, is engaging the Saudi authorities through diplomatic channels with a view to finding a just solution.
