Nigerian Minister donates N20 million for research

As part of efforts to boost research and innovation in the country, the Nigerian government has donated N20million to four National Academies for the publication of professional journals.

The four academies are the Nigerian Academy of Letters, the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Nigerian Academy of Social Science and the Nigerian Academy of Engineering

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu who made the donation enjoined the academies to strive to integrate their knowledge especially as innovations are at the reach of everyone, adding that “knowledge cannot be compartmentalized in this fast-growing internet age”.

Dr. Onu urged the Science academies to explore the benefits of social sciences to solve societal problems and boost innovations in the country.

The Minister noted that it would be easier to solve critical National problems when we bring together the best brains we have in the country.

He commended the academies for their contribution to national development and charged them to continue to harness the potentials in the country in order to make it great.

“It is high time we move away from just having potentials but utilize them to move Nigeria forward” Dr. Onu added.

In his remarks, the President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Professor Mosto Onuoha, thanked the Minister for his thoughtfulness and innovative ideas in considering the academics for cash donations.

Mr. Onuoha assured the Minister that the money would be well utilized to advance the frontiers of knowledge, research and innovations.

He thanked the Minister for the gesture and called for more collaboration between the Academies and the Ministry.
