As part of activities to mark its 64th anniversary, the Nigerian Navy has distributed palliatives to vulnerable members of some Abuja communities.
While distributing the palliatives in Kuje, and Jiwa communities in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Rear Admiral Jatau Luka who represented the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas said the distribution of the palliatives which comprised food items and personal protective equipment (PPEs) was to support efforts of the Nigerian government in reducing the impact of COVID-19 on citizens.
The Naval Chief said that the Nigerian Navy decided to have a low key celebration because the anniversary came at a time when the nation and the world at large was going through trying times battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rear Admiral Luka stated that the Navy shares in the pains and difficulties of their host communities and the palliatives was a way to support them.
The Emir of Kuje, Haruna Tanko and the Emir of Jiwa Community, Muhammed Danladi while receiving the donated items on behalf of members of their communities, thanked the Nigerian Navy for the kind gesture praying that God removes the Coronavirus and restore lasting peace in the country.
