Nigerian President promises more democratic dividends

The President made this known when he hosted a delegation of Elders and leaders of the governing All Progressives Congress APC form Akwa Ibom State.

President Buhari, who expressed satisfaction for the appreciation shown by the delegation led by Senator Godswill Akpabio, said it would motivate his administration to offer more service to Nigerians.

Construction of East-West road
He announced that construction of section 5 of the East-West road from Oron-in Akwa Ibom to Calabar in Cross River States to be funded under the forum on China-Africa cooperation has been approved.

“I wish to inform you that the construction of section 5 of the East-West road in Oron-Akwa Ibom and Calabar-Cross River states, a major priority project to be funded under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation arrangement with the Chinese government has received approval,” he said.

He told the delegation that other road projects worth billions of naira for the south-south geo-political zone have been captured in the 2018 budget, especially the Ikot Ikpene road, which would soon be dualized.

“The sum of N11.1 has also been provided in the 2018 budget for the award of contract for the dualization of the outsanding portion of the Odukpani-Itu-ikot Ikpene road LOT 2. Meanwhile, to complete the Cross River-Akwa Ibom-Abia axis of he road, I have directed the federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing and the Ministry of Budget and national Planning to provide in the 2019 budget, for the dualization of Ikot-Ekpene-Aba axis,” he said.

President Buhari told the delegation that the construction of sub-station electricity in Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State to boost power supply to adjoining Local Government areas and parts of Cross Rivers state was in progress.

He said that no part of the country would be left out in the Government infrastructure development.

Senator Godswill Akpabio said that they moved from the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress because of the leadership style of President Buhari and his achievements within this short period of time.

He said: “Akwa Ibom is leading the other states in the Southern region to support you. I thank you for, not just integrity but for the love you have for the people of the South-South. Together with my team, we have come to add value in thousands. In Akwa Ibom alone we recorded about 256, 000 new registered members of the APC in Akwa Ibom alone.”

The APC leader in Akwa Ibom Chief Don Etiebet commended President Buhari for appointing some indigenes of the State to strategic positions.

He traced the mass defection to APC in Akwa Ibom to the political ties between the region and the north.

The delegation was made up of former Ministers, Members of the National Assembly, Women and Youth leaders, party chieftains and chief Executives of some government Agencies.
