Nigerian Youth Council cautions youth against drug abuse

The National President of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, NYC, Mr. Isa Abubakar has cautioned Nigerian youth against drug abuse and suicide killing.

Mr. Abubakar gave the advice in an interview with Voice of Nigeria during a courtesy visit and award presentation tag ‘’ Garkuwan Matassan Arewa, meaning “the shield of the Northern Youth” to the Cross River State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Frankland Briyai, at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, head office in Calabar, the Capital of Cross River State, South-South, Nigeria.

‘’Nigerian youth should look inwardly among themselves and say no to drugs, also say no to suicide. They should know that, there is hope for each and every one of us because we are the leaders of tomorrow. Drug addiction and suicide will never give us what we are looking for. We should be focused, determined and chose a right trade we can engage in aside of our degrees, so that we can use it to give ourselves a livelihood’’.      

Mr. Isa Abubakar called on the National Security Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari to partner with the states government to establish skill acquisition programmes for Nigeria Youth for the betterment of their future.

‘’the National Security Adviser should collaborate with states government to establish skill acquisitions programmes that will be beneficiaries to the youth. The skill must not be white scholar jobs, but there should be an alternative for the youth to have livelihood outside the white scholar jobs they have been trained in their various universities. The government should have the total numbers of unemployed youths in each state. Especially youths that have passed out from the universities that are still idle, doing nothing, they should be recruited before they are seen operating in various crimes in the country’’.

He also stressed the need for Nigeria government to revisit their business policies in order to attract more foreign investors to the country, ‘’ the government of Nigeria need to review her international business policies to attract investors, to encourage industries to come and build their plants in Nigeria, so that Nigeria youth should be the major beneficiaries of such industries’’.

‘’The documents should be strictly spells out and every international company that is coming into Nigeria, should have huge percentage of Nigeria youth and this youth should not be under paid’’, Mr. Abubakar added.

The President of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria went further to explain that the essence of the award was to recognize hard work and commitment to duties “as young persons, it is our responsibilities to encourage individuals that has chosen the right part of serving diligently their nation. The award is to encourage them to put in more effort in their duties for the betterment of our nation. It is also to encourage those around Dr. Frankland Briyai and those far away from him to realize that good conduct attract respect and honour to them who decided in doing good things for their nation’’.

He went further to explain that the award was a token of appreciation from the council to ‘’Dr. Frankland Briyai, ’’for the success of the 2019 general election in Cross River State because the election in the state was free, fair and peaceful’’.

Cross River State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Frankland Briyai, was impressed about the award given to him by the Northern Youths Council of Nigeria. He said that the award would encourage him to continue to render good service to the nation.

The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria has 14 awards for outstanding Nigerians throughout year 2019.  Dr. Frankland Briyai, was the fifth person the union has presented award to this year and the first among public servants across Nigeria to receive award from the union.
