The Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has appealed to Nigerians not to take politics as a do-or-die affair or violently, just as the 2019 general elections are fast approaching.
Senator Wamakko made the appeal in an interview with journalists in Sokoto State.
He said God gives and takes leadership to and from whosoever He wishes and at His appointed time, stressing that all Nigerians have the equal rights to aspire to any position.
“We can only have one Chairman, Governor or President at a time,” Senator Wamakko said.
Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, said the underlying motive for seeking any elective position should be meeting the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.
“The main idea here is that, people are more important than any other interest and we have to continually put this at the back of our minds, if our democracy must be allowed to grow, to be in tune with the extant global trends,” he said.
The Senator further admonished Nigerians to consider one another as one “as we all know that the country belong to all of us,” he stated.
“Until we believe this, we have a long way to go and doing otherwise is retrogressive and would continue to retard the growth, as well as development of Nigeria,” he explained.
The Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum further noted that God has blessed Nigeria with abundant human and natural resources, which were not being effectively harnessed.
He said Nigeria has abundant natural and mineral resources which should be fully explored and exploited, if the nation must surge to more greatness.
“We have everything to survive in this country, we must therefore stand up in this direction, just as we should shun corruption in all its ramifications,” he said.
Senator Wamakko also advised Nigerians to go into poultry and other related agriculture ventures, as the country has abundant resources.
