The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), has commenced a two-day free medical outreach for patients in areas affected by Boko Haram insurgency in Adamawa.

Speaking at the ceremony in Michika, headquarters of Michika Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Wednesday, the state NMA chairman Dr Elijah Garga, said the programme was part of activities for 2019 Physicians’ Week in the state.

“We have come with more than 50 doctors including consultants that are going to execute the medical and surgical outreach.

We have come with enough consumables and I want to assure that any person that is here will be attended to and should in case we can’t handle any case here, we are ready to take you to Yola to address the problem.

Everything we are doing here wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the State Government as well as contributions from the Ubandoma of Michika, Stephen Maduwa,”
Garga said.

Also speaking, Maduwa lamented the sorry state of facilities at the Michika General Hospital which only has one doctor.

“I also want to appeal to the Federal Government to do something about infrastructure in Michika and Madagali areas of the state which are worst hit by insurgency.

We still don’t have electricity while roads and bridges destroyed are still yearning for attention,”
Maduwa said.

Sunday Pur, a patient suffering from hernia said he has been managing the ailment since 2014 because he could not afford the cost of operation.

“I feel happy today to be one of those to benefit from the free operation,” Pur said.

Some patients from neighbouring Cameroon Republic as well as Gwoza and Askira/Uba LGAs of Borno were also at the venue to access programme.
