L-R: Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council Adamu Yusuf, Media and Publicity Secretary of CNNC, Mr. Larry Yammai, Chairman of the CNNC, Professor, Adamu Bakie and Vice Chairman Elder Steven Bangoji during the press briefing at NUJ, Kaduna on Monday, March 26, 2018.

The Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians, CNNC has called on the Nigerian government to take preventive measures in securing all girls’ boarding schools across the Northern region.

The Media and Publicity Secretary of the CNNC, Larry Yammai made the call at its maiden conference which held in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria.

“While appreciating government’s timely intervention and release of Dapchi students, it is worthy to note that the experience is a worrisome signal that abduction of school girls can happen anywhere at any time, hence the call”, he stated.

Yammai said there is an urgent need for government to critically assess the standards obtained in public schools where huge fund is invested with little sign of corresponding improvement.

According to him, “private schools have gained ascendency and have occupied the front burner of the school system at an expense to parents who could hardly afford the high fees”, he noted that “the situation is untenable and unacceptable”.

While speaking on government’s achievements in various sectors, Yammai stated that CNNC applauded the agricultural programme of the Nigerian government, adding that, there is need for research and qualified extension services for farmers to enhance their productivity.

“There is however the need to ensure all rural farmers are being genuinely involved in the agric program and the incentives meant for them reaches them adequately and promptly”, he stressed.

Speaking further, he disclosed that the group is gladdened by the successes recorded by the Nigerian Military against the boko haram but however calls for the rescue of the remaining Chibok girls.

Yammai noted that the group commends the recent visits of the President to the States affected by herdsmen killings as the visit is bound to have a salutary effect on the people who have been devastated by the crisis.

“We however plead with the President to be humane on the matter especially by what he saw during his visit, adding that, the sources of the deadly weapons should be checked with the aim of arresting those concerned “.

The CNNC is a registered body of all the Christians in the nineteen Northern States and the FCT and it was inaugurated in November, 2017.
