Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin on Thursday recorded a 1-0 win over visiting Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi through a 10th minute goal by Stephen Alfred.
The Match Day 6 fixture in the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) was played at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin.
Alfred’s long-range strike gave Kwara United the match’s full points and their second win of the season, after having lost three away games and one home game.
Michael Ohanu, the 2016/2017 Nigeria National League (NNL) top scorer, would have doubled the lead later on, with only the goalkeeper to beat, but he instead shot over the bar.
Kwara United’s goalkeeper Godwin Ayalogu was however outstanding in the game, as his teammates made efforts to extend their lead, but the resilient Lobi Stars defence rose to the occasion.
Lobi Stars’ Head Coach, Solomon Ogbeide, who said after the match that their hosts played well and deserved to win, however rued missing the services of team star player Anthony Okpotu.
“We would have loved to have Anthony Okpotu, who is currently with the CHAN team in Morocco,’’ he said.
