Hosts Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Sunday subdued El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri 1-0 in a 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 8 fixture.
Kelvin Itoya scored the only goal of the match early in the second half to steady the Flying Antelopes’ upward movement on the NPFL table.
Speaking to newsmen after the match, Rangers’ coach Olugbenga Ogunbote praised the players for their performance.
“The most important thing was that we won, because all we need most are the three points.
The number of goals scored is not what matters at this stage. But I know that the goals will come as the season progresses.
Our players are beginning to understand each other’s style of play and with time, Rangers will be a force to reckon with in the League,’’ he said.
Ogunbote said his aim was to make Rangers a formidable force, with the club winning both home and away.
In his reaction, El-Kanemi’s coach Imama Amapakabo said it was rather unfortunate that they were in Enugu for the three points but were returning home empty-handed.
“Yes, we had planned to leave Enugu with three points, and we gave it our all. But the God of football says otherwise.
Today is Rangers’ day, tomorrow may be ours and we are going home to prepare for our next match,’’ he said.
