NSE ends mid-week trading on positive

Activities on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) upscaled marginally at the close of the mid-week trading by 0.18 percent.

Specifically, the All-Share Index grew from 24,650.16 basis points on Tuesday to 24,693.73 basis points on Wednesday by 43.57 basis points.

And the Market Capitalization grew from N12,859 trillion on Tuesday to N12,882 trillion on Wednesday, by N23 billion.

During the course of trading, a total volume of 101,587 million units of shares worth N973,637 million were exchanged in 3,685.00 deals where 18 stocks gained and 14 declined.

On the top of the gainer’s list is CORNERSTONE INSURANCE PLC, which earned its spot by moving from a previous selling price of 0.50k per share to close on Wednesday at a selling price of 0.55k per share, thereby gaining 0.05k or 10.00 percent.

Right after is SEPLAT PETROLEUM DEVELOPMENT COMPANY PLC with an opening selling price of N282.00 per share and a closing selling price of N310.20k per share, gaining N28.20k or 10.00 percent.

Then PRESTIGE ASSURANCE PLC occupied the third gainer position when it opened at a selling price of 0.46k per share and closed at 0.50k per share, gaining 0.04k or 8.70 percent.

On the reverse side however, NPF MICROFINANCE BANK PLC, led the Losers’ with a 0.13k or 9.92 percent fall after opening and closing at N1.31k and N1.18k per share respectively.

ARBICO PLC was next with a 0.15k or 9.74 percent decline, when it closed on Wednesday at N1.39k per share, as against previous closing price of N1.54k per share.

While STUDIO PRESS (NIG) PLC. declined from a previous selling price of N1.99k per share to N1.80k per share by 0.19k or 9.55 percent.

Analyzing the sectoral performances, the Banking sector is the only index that closed on a negative falling from 279.18 basis points to 278.60 basis points by 0.58 basis points or 0.21 percent.

All others advanced with the Oil/Gas Index leading by 7.46 basis points or 4.6 percent when it moved from 162.88 basis points to 170.34 basis points.

Next is the Insurance Index which had a previous closing of 120.65 basis points to close today at 122.34 basis points, increasing by 1.69 basis points or 1.4 percent.

Then the Industrial Index advanced from 1,143.61 basis points to 1,146.73 basis points by 3.12 basis points or 0.3 percent.

And lastly, the Consumer Goods Index grew from 402.42 basis points to 402.48 basis points by 0.06 basis points or 0.01%.
