NSE: Friday trading ends on a low

At the end of Friday’s trading activities, the market closed with a 0.26% fall, as the Capitalisation closed at 13,606 trillion Naira as against previous closing of 13,641 trillion Naira on Thursday.

While the All Share Index fell from Thursday’s closing of 27,990.61 basis points to close on Friday at 27,918.59 basis points.

Summarily in this trading week, the NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization both depreciated by 0.003%.

However, all other indices finished higher with the exception of NSE-Main Board, NSE Banking, NSE Pension, NSE Insurance, NSE AFR Div Yield and NSE Oil/Gas indices which depreciated by 0.28%, 0.39%, 0.18%, 0.94%, 1.13% and 0.19% respectively.

A total turnover of 1.069 billion shares worth N11.393 billion in 16,346 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange in contrast to a total of 1.086 billion shares valued at N13.390 billion that exchanged hands last week in 15,774 deals.

The Financial Services industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 606.437 million shares valued at N5.381 billion traded in 7,529 deals; thus contributing 56.75% and 47.23% to the

total equity turnover volume and value respectively. The ICT Industry followed with 225.576 million shares worth N1.776 billion in 751 deals.

The third place was Conglomerates Industry with a turnover of 66.375 million shares worth N85.924 million in 890 deals.

Trading in the Top Three Equities namely, Courteville Business Solutions Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc and FCMB Group Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 402.694 million shares worth N819.828 million in 1,526 deals, contributing 37.68% and 7.20% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

In the just concluded trading week, thirty-one (31) equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than Fifteen (15) equities in the previous week.

Twenty-nine (29) equities depreciated in price, lower than Fifty-two (52) equities in

the previous week, while one hundred and nine (109) equities remained unchanged, higher than one hundred and two (102) equities recorded in the preceding week.


A total of 753 units valued at N102,213.02 were traded this week in 8 deals. There was no trade recorded last week.


A total of 22,242 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N22.559 million were traded this week in 15 deals compared with a total of 5,666 units valued at N5.847 billion transacted last week in 17 deals.


Meanwhile, a total volume of 78,722 units of 11.195% FGS JULY 2021 and 198,964 units of 12.195% FGS JULY 2022 Bonds were admitted to trade at the Exchange on the 23rd July, 2019.

Also in this week, FGN Roads Sukuk Company 1 Plc N100,000,000,000, 7-years, 15.743% Ijarah Sukuk Bond Due 2025 were listed on the Daily Official List of The Nigerian Stock Exchange on Tuesday, 23 July 2019.
