Moses Aduku, coach of Bayelsa Queens FC, said the team would play each of its matches in the forthcoming 2018/2019 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) as though it were a `Cup’ final.
Aduku, whose team are the defending champions, said this on Friday while commenting on the club’s preparations for the league in which it was pitched in Group C.
The Yenagoa based side will play against Sunshine Queens, a former Aiteo Cup (formerly Federation Cup) winner and Nasarawa Amazons with two NWPL titles to their belt alongside Jokodolu babes of Ogbomoso.
The coach said on Friday in Abuja that the team’s target was to retain the trophy.
“Our target is to retain the trophy but first we need to surmount the hurdle on our way.
“We will not underrate any team but will take each game as a Cup final,’’ he said.
Aduku added that the club had injected new signings into the team to help them achieve their dream.
“We have beefed up with seven players; a goalkeeper, two central defenders, two midfielders and two strikers.
“The team is well motivated in all aspects, especially finance. So, we are good to go and are hopeful that we will keep the trophy again,’’ Aduku added.
A total of 20 teams grouped in four will begin the NWPL season on July 17.
