Lagos state defeated their Delta counterparts 1-0 in the final of the female football event in a keenly contested encounter at the National Youth Games.
Okesiji Sinmiloluwa’s 21st minute brilliant strike was all the Lagos team needed to clinch the gold medal on Thursday.
She brilliantly controlled a long pass from the midfield and dribbled through the Delta defence before her left footed shot went into the roof of the net.
In the male event, Edo beat Kaduna 3-0 in the quarter finals to book a place in the semifinals.
Kano defeated Benue State 3-0 to set a semifinal clash with Delta which had beaten Gombe state 2-0 to progress to the semifinals.
Lagos recorded a 1-0 win over Anambra to book a place in the semifinals and will lock horns with Edo.
All the semifinal matches are scheduled for Friday at the main bowl of the University of Ilorin Sports Complex.
In the male event of scrabble, Gerald Ekhagbai won gold for Lagos after winning eight games with total points of 1208 while Asagba Jeffrey of Edo picked the silver medal after winning six games with a total of 461 points.
Kingsley Omolaja of Niger State won bronze in the event with total points of 319 after winning six games.
In the female category, Joy Ola of Plateau State won gold after eight games with a total point of 1505 while her counterparts, Hauwa Abdullahi picked silver with 861 points after six games.
Delta’s Imode Omoye won the bronze medal with 333 points after winning six games.
