D’Tigers home-based head coach, Ogoh Odaudu, has called up 14 players for the inaugural AfroCanBasket Championship taking place in Bamako, Mali.
The tournament which is billed to tip off from July 19 to 28 is organised by Africa’s basketball governing body FIBA Africa, specifically for players based in the continent.
Odaudu selected Micheal Okiki, Ibe Agu, Abdulwahab Yakubu and Istifanus Yakubu from Gombe Bulls, while he called up the quintet of Abdul Yahaya, Victor Anthony, Onyebuchi Nwaiwu and Solomon Ezra from Rivers Hoopers.
Also named in the squad are Azuoma Dike, Lucky Subel, Godwin David, Jide Michael, Joel Ijigba and Akin Akintunde.
According to Ogoh, the selected players were invited based on their recent performances on international and continental club assignments.
“These are carefully selected players based on their activities in the last one year,” Odaudu was quoted in a media statement from the Nigerian Basketball Federation.
“We needed to pick players who can easily adapt to the style we will adopt in Mali.”
The team will depart for Bamako on Thursday (today).
