Ogun commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo says the state government is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources on the establishment of two irrigation dams, in a bid to boost agriculture in the state.
She said preliminary work on the two irrigation projects to be located at the Ikenne and Ijebu-Idode Farm Settlements is underway.“The Ikenne irrigation dam will be 2,500 hectares of farm land, while that of IjebuIdode will cover 1,000 hectares. Aside from this, the dam will also assist the state government intervention programme in the area,’’ said Adebajo while receiving the management of Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, during a courtesy visit to her office in Abeokuta.
She noted that upon completion by the end of this year, the projects would benefit farmers and host communities.
Managing Director, Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, OlufemiOdumosu noted that the state’s willingness to host Nigerian Government intervention projects had made it a destination of choice, for both federal projects, other industrial and international interventions.
Odumosu stated that the project would improve the existing infrastructures at the two farm settlements and the access road leading to the settlements.
