Nigerian sprint record holders Blessing Okagbare and Divine Oduduru were absent at the 2019 All-Nigeria Track and Field Championships, which started on Thursday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
The annual event serves as the trials for athletes who will represent Nigeria at the 2019 African Games in Casablanca, Morocco and the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.
At the championships, the athletes contested for the national titles and tickets to the two championships from the races, throws and jumps.
It was gathered that Okagbare and Oduduru with six others have qualified for the World Championships.
The other six are Emmanuel Arowolo 200m; Usheoritse Itesekiri – 100m; Tobilola Amusan – 100m hurdles; Raymond Ekevwo – 100m; Edosa Ibadin – 800m and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi for shot put.
According to the start-list by organisers of the championships, Okagbare was supposed to partake in women’s 100m at 10.30am on Thursday, while Oduduru was expected to feature in men’s 100m.
