The main opposition parties in the Abia state gubernatorial election have called for a cancellation of the entire exercise.

The main opposition parties; All Progressives Congress Party (APC), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Accord party (A) walked out of the venue of the collation centre in Umuahia, the state capital.

They accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of manipulating the result, causing uproar at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC where the collation is ongoing. They are seeking for the cancellation of the election.

Accusation
The APC party agent, Iheanacho Obioma told Newsmen that the outcome of the election was totally unacceptable.

Obioma said “the results at the collation centre were totally unacceptable and accused the PDP of working with INEC to influence the figures.”

Similarly, the APGA party agents, Uzo Nwachukwu and Mike Akpara accused the ruling party of rigging the election and called on the Nigeria government as well as INEC to cancel the poll as it did not reflect the minds of the people.

PDP responds
The PDP agent, Erondu Uchenna countered the allegations and asked the opposition parties to go to court if they were not satisfied with the exercise so far.

According to him, “the opposition parties agents were at various polling centres where election took place and confirmed that the process was transparent.”

The INEC returning officer for Abia state, Professor Benjamin Ozurumba called for calm at the centre.

“This should not cause a problem because the results are still coming in. Let us remain calm. If you are not satisfied with the process, the right to do is to go to court and if you have any petition, I encourage you to submit it here and it will be investigated.

“As you can see, all we are doing is what the Nigerian government asked us to do,” Professor Ozurumba stated.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in the state, Gabriel Eliagwu who intervened with his men to calm the situation, advised the political parties not to cause any further trouble at the collation centre.

The collation exercise is still going on in Umuahia and they are 17 local government areas in Abia State, known as the God’s own state.
