Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected allegations that the declaration of Osun State governorship election as inconclusive, was done in its favour.
Following the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which was leading by 353 votes accused the electoral commission of acting in the incumbent party’s favour.
In a press statement by the APC Acting National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yekini Nabena, the APC said the outcome of the Osun election was a departure from the past.
The party commended INEC for its work in Osun State.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) hail the Osun electorate; Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); security agencies and relevant stakeholders over the conduct of Saturday’s inconclusive governorship election in the state which was largely peaceful despite some reported irregularities.
“While we continue to improve on our electoral processes, particularly correcting some irregularities witnessed in Saturday’s election, the APC commends the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration which has continually exhibited its commitment to ensuring that elections are more peaceful, transparent, credible and acceptable,” the statement read.
