Osun Speaker promises synergy between legislature and executive

Yinka Salaam, Osogbo

Mr Timothy Owoeye

The newly elected Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly has promised to lead with fear of God and ensure a perfect synergy between the legislature and the executive arm of government.

Mr Timothy Owoeye emerged as Speaker on Thursday following the formal inauguration of the Seventh Assembly in Osogbo, the State capital.

He said the rancour-free operations and cooperation between the two arms of government which had been the secret behind the success of the immediate past government would be sustained.

Owoeye described as unfortunate, the bickering at the national level which saw some legislators prioritising selfish interest over national interest, saying, such shall not be witnessed in Osun State.

Critical stakeholder
The new Speaker, however, assures that the assembly shall not be a rubber stamp, a yes organ or a willing tool in the hand of the executive but a critical stakeholder in taking the State to a higher level.

Owoeye stressed that, in the overall interest of the State, the assembly shall perform its lawmaking activities and oversight function without unnecessarily heating the polity.

An assembly member, Tunde Olatunji, who represents Ife North Constituency, had nominated Owoeye; with a ‘seconder’, Mr Adenine Abioye, representing Ifedayo State Constituency.

Femi Popoola of Boripe Constituency emerged as the Deputy Speaker.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola; his deputy, Gboyega Alabi; former deputy Governor, Mrs Titilaoye Tomori, among others attended the inauguration.
