Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN says a total number of 69,231 candidates have registered for the Council’s October Diet Teachers Professional Qualifications Examinations, PQE.
The Registrar of the Council, Professor Josiah Ajiboye made this known in Abuja during a Media Briefing on the forthcoming PQE across Nigeria.
Professor Ajiboye also said that the council recorded an upsurge in the numbers of candidates registering for the exam.
He stressed that it was not connected to the December 31st deadline on ending quackery in teaching profession in Nigeria.
Professor Ajiboye stated that a total number of 47 Computer Based Test Centres would be put into use for the personalised teachers exams.
According to him, Oyo State has the highest numbers of candidates with 5,145, Lagos State has 5,117, Kaduna has 4616 and 4214 candidates came from the FCT.
The TRCN Registrar stated that private schools constitute the largest number of candidates .
“Three thousand seven hundred and nine candidates registered in Plateau State while Zamfara State has the lowest numbers if candidates with 397 candidates,”Professor Ajiboye said.
“We have so many people who are just coming up with the reality of our deadline of Dec 31st 2019, and TRCN will not shut down anybody who are ready to sit for the exam before the deadline therefore we will orgabise another PQE in November 2019 although we are yet to have date”
Professor Ajiboye disclosed that examination would hold for two days in 17 States of the federation while it will take hold for one day in other states.
“In Kaduna State, We have centres at the College of Education Gidan Waya , NTI and FCE Zaria, In Oyo State we have in University of Ibadan, and Lautech, in Cross River State, we have in Ogoja and Calabar, in Lagos State we have two centres, one in Akoka , in Borno State, we have a centre also in Maiduguri and Biu.
“In Kebbi State we also have two centres in Zuru and Birnin Kebbi,” Professor Ajiboye explained.
He stated that the Council has put all measures in place to address challenges of distance, cost and peculiar security challenges mitigating the candidates from accessing their centres.
“The council has introduced online Bio metric accreditation of candidates for the would be teachers in Abuja, we have also ensure that candidates passports are included in the personal pages of the candidates on the PC,” he said.
Professor Ajiboye added that the October diet of TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination would hold on Saturday, 12th of October 2019 across the 36 States of the federation including the FCT.
