The Oyo State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed all fourteen names on the commissioner nominees list sent to it by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The names of the nominees were contained in a message sent to the House by the Governor and read at plenary by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin on July 25, 2019.
On the commissioner nominees list are four former lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Kehinde Ayoola (Former Speaker), Mr Adeniyi Farinto, Mrs Funmilayo Orisadeyi (the only female nominee) and Mr Ojemuyiwa Ojekunle.
The former lawmakers, who appeared before the Assembly members, were asked to take a bow and go after they had briefly introduced themselves.
The decision to allow the former lawmakers take a bow and go followed motions moved and seconded by the members of the Assembly.
Others nominees cleared are, a former Director-General, Seyi Makinde Campaign Organisation, Chief Bayo Ojo, Dr Bashir Abiodun Bello, Prof Oyelowo Oyewo, Prof Dawud Sangodoyin, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye and Mr Adeniyi Olabode Adebisi.
The remaining commissioner nominees whose appointment were confirmed are, Mr Raheem Abdulraheem, Mr Seun Ashamu, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun and Mr Akinola Ojo.
The nominees were severally grilled by the lawmakers, who asked them probing questions bordering on their professional and educational experiences and how they intend to bring their wealth of knowledge and training to bear in the various positions they are being considered for.
Most of the commissioner designates expressed happiness at their nomination by Governor Seyi Makinde and described the opportunity as a call to serve the people of the State and also contribute to good governance, as promised by the PDP-led administration in Oyo State.
Addressing journalists after the plenary that lasted for about seven hours, Speaker Ogundoyin expressed satisfaction on the caliber, intelligence and educational pedigree of the commissioner-designates.
He added that the new team would bring fresh impetus into the Governor Makinde-led administration in the State, calling on them to ensure they put their years of experience in the private sector to use, in running the public sector.
Ogundoyin further appealed to the people to show understanding to the government by supporting it and giving it time to translate its good intentions into reality, saying, “the resolve of Governor Seyi Makinde to transform Oyo State is not in doubt going by the caliber of people being considered for appointment into the State Executive Council.”
Ogundoyin noted that virtually all the appointees are technocrats and highly cerebral people who have or are making waves in their chosen careers.
Furthermore, the House screened and confirmed the appointment of Dr Nureni Adeniran as Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Oyo State, while Mr Akeem Oladeji and Mr Dayo Ogungbenro were confirmed as full time members of the Board.
The commissioner nominees are expected to be sworn in by Governor Seyi Makinde anytime soon.
