The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has assured prospective investors and business owners that his administration would not compromise its roles in making wealth creation and business prosperity a reality.

Makinde also disclosed that his government was on the verge of completing a model called, “Enterprise Developmental Centre”, which the State would use as a platform to train and nurture business people and entrepreneurs, especially youths.

The Governor said this in his goodwill message at the 2019 edition of the Ibadan Business Roundtable,  themed, “Creating an enabling environment for your business to thrive”, organised by the Ibadan Chapter of the Alumni Fellowship of Evangelical Christian Union, Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile Ife.

Business interests
Makinde, who was represented at the event by his Executive Assistance on Administration, Mr Idowu Ogedengbe, said efforts are also underway to ensure that a new institution with the necessary legislative backing would come up to make business registration and acquisition of the necessary permit easier.

This is in order to encourage prospective business interests and young entrepreneurs.

“I want to let all the attendees at this Ibadan Business Roundtable know that a new environment is being created that will support the aspirations of business owners. The government of Governor Seyi Makinde believes that if there is going to be economic prosperity and an environment where people are capable of creating wealth, then the government has a role to play in facilitating the appropriate climate and business environment,” he said.

Ogedengbe stated that the desire of government is to enhance the ease of doing business so that investors and business owners would be encouraged to come and build their businesses in Oyo State.

Noting that Oyo State occupies a very strategic position in the Southwest that can serve as a link in terms of trade flow across the various regions in Nigeria.

He affirmed that the doors are opened to investors to come and settle and do business profitably in the land of Oyo State.

Sponsoring Bill
On the issue of one-stop shop for business registration and taxation, Ogedengbe said, “That is one of the promises made by Governor Makinde in the agenda for the transformation of the policy documents and we are going to make that possible and not just leave it but we will make it happen.”

He stated that the government is set to sponsor a Bill that would create a new institution to facilitate quick business registration, get all the necessary permits, register the business and within a very short space of time, complete all the requirements to get a business running in Oyo State.

The Executive Secretary noted that, “Our Governor is a Governor who wants to change the paradigm. He has observed that the elders have always been largely concentrated on but now he is giving the youths the chance. Not that the elders will be neglected but we believe so strongly that the youths have pivotal roles to play in the development of any economy, particularly that of Oyo State.”

Speaking on the purpose of the roundtable, one of the facilitators, Mrs Toyin Oladele, revealed that the event, which is in its fifth edition, was borne out of the need to create a platform for successful entrepreneurs and business owners to share the secrets of their success with younger ones.

The event was attended by young entrepreneurs, graduates, undergraduates and business owners from different parts of the State.
