The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomole says the ongoing party defection amongst politicians in Nigeria is a good development as it enhances unification of like minds especially the progressives.
Oshiomole made the remark during a special visit to former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau at his home in the ancient city, as part of consultation for his final defection from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to APC.
He said the defection phenomena has allowed for the progressives and conservatives to regroup and chart ways forward.
“I have always said that we should be going forward. When the progressives unite, the conservatives move away. This meeting has offered us the opportunity to reunite once again as progressives and as people who are interested in the development of the nation,” Oshiomole said.
The APC National Chairman said as one of the founding fathers of APC, Shekarau is welcome back home, stressing that “from your background nobody can claim to be more progressive than you.”
Shekarau said his position for membership of APC would be declared soon after due consultation with loyalists across the 44 local governments in the state.
He was delighted about Oshiomole’s visit, as he emphasis that “history is repeating itself”.
“All along, I have been beating my chest with pride that anybody writing the history of APC and the name of Ibrahim Shekarau is not there, that history is incomplete. I had the singular honour of being the Chief mid-wife of APC.
“For me and Governor Ganduje, regardless of any political party we find ourselves, our mission is always one, sincerity of purpose to move Kano and Nigeria forward,” he explained.
The Kano State Governor, Dr. Umar Ganduje said the visit was for the betterment of the State, as they will put their heads together to improve it and beyond, saying “between the followers of Ibrahim Shekarau and our government, everything will be sorted out peacefully.”
“Ibrahim Shekarau, we welcome you to this very important party, the APC. You are one of the founding fathers of APC.
“There is the need for all of us as progressives to work together for the development of Kano State and the development of our nation, Nigeria,” the Governor re-emphasised.
The final declaration is expected this Saturday.
