The Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) says it is providing free medical outreach to 10,000 displaced and vulnerable persons in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe state.
The programme, which runs from March 11 to 17, is being executed in partnership with MAIGOJE Foundation.
Dr Usman Abba, the Executive Officer, MAIGOJE Foundation, said the outreach covers free medical consultation, drugs, treatment, minor and major surgeries to the targeted groups.
Abba said more than 242 surgeries have been carried out successfully on patients with various ailments.
“So far, 75 patients have undergone successful dental surgery, 136 successful eye surgeries and over 31 successful surgeries for other ailments,” he said.
The programme also provides consultations, scanning, drugs and other services in paediatric and gynaecology while those with serious cases were admitted for detailed medical attention.
Alhaji Mulima Mato, the Chairman, Geidam Local Government Council, commended PCNI for the gesture and assured the support and cooperation of the council for the success of the exercise.
Mato however urged PCNI and its partners to consider extension of the programme in view of the increased number of patients coming from other neighbouring local government areas.
“The extension will afford the target beneficiaries obtain specialised treatment for the ailments they have suffered for some time,” the chairman pleaded.
